The Board of Directors appoints an Editor who shall be responsible for the news/editorial content of the newspaper and other multimedia platforms. The editor shall consult with the editorial adviser and is responsible to the general manager and Board. The editor serves at the pleasure of the general manager and Board.

The Editor in Chief serves a 12 month term starting May 1st.

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. (Other duties may be assigned.)

• In consultation with the editorial adviser, recruits, hires, orients, trains, evaluates, and if necessary, disciplines the newsroom staff.
• Supervises staff engaged in selecting, gathering, and editing local, regional and national news for each daily edition and special sections.
• Works with the editorial adviser to ensure that there is a proper balance of news and opinions, including the criteria of quality, completeness, fairness and accuracy. Maintains final authority regarding whether to print news stories, editorials or any other editorial content including letters to the editor and columns.
• Responsible for ensuring that editorial policies are regularly communicated to and adhered to by editorial staff.
• Assists the editorial adviser in proposing an annual department budget and works within established boundaries of approved budget. Submits out-of-town travel requests to general manager and all other expenditure requests to the editorial adviser for approval.
• Ensures that all deadlines are met.
• Seeks guidance from editorial adviser concerning legal and ethical issues.
• Chairs editorial board meetings.
• Provides a written report to the Board of Directors before each meeting and makes other reports as the board may require.
• Maintains a 2.0 GPA during the term of appointment and submits transcripts or grade report to the general manager for verification beginning with the semester of the appointment.
